One Hour Early

Getting an extra hour of anything in my life is a laughable suggestion. I mean, there's ballet, Boy Scouts, Awana's, schooling, pets, errands, cooking, cleaning, and the laundry alone could easily be a week worth's endeavor. Some where in all that is the time to take for myself. Which I do when the kids go to sleep. Sometimes I'll stay up and watch a show or goof around on the phone for a bit instead of cleaning up or (gasp) take a shower.

Over the course of this new year, I took on a new opportunity that made me get in to high gear. The demand didn't seem like that much at first, but it snowballed and before I knew it, I was drowning in responsibility that I had put off for later.

What's that phrase? Procrastinate now, Panic later...

So I took control, delegated some tasks to my family and took care of the organizing part. What needed to be done now that my house was in "order" was clean and organize my brain. Off to the library. Never disregard the power of self help books.

I deleted my Facebook app, put down the phone and picked up the book. Simple. Yes. Easy. Not so much. The beckoning of the phone is a strong cry. So is Netflix. But, remembering the panic part made it easy for me to strive on. I started to listen to inspiring and motivated talks on you tube. Did you know Pandora has a podcast station now? Neither did I! When you seek, the universe has a beautiful way of showing you.

Upon hearing a podcast by The Mighty Mom's Quick and Dirty Tips, Ep.514 , she mentions one of five ways to be less overwhelmed. One of them was get one more hour of sleep. I'm like... "say what now?" because the kids are in bed and now it's my time. But the more I listened, the more it made sense. I wake sluggish, not fully rested, foggy headed and at the end of the day, more cranky. So I took her advice. And started to go to sleep an hour earlier than I was before. And then ,guess what happened? I had an extra hour in the morning, all to my self. I would get my hot drink and I started to think about my goals. What I wanted for my family and my self. I started questioning. And I started to Dream. Because I was fully rested, my brain was in high focus. How simple a little thing like an extra hour of sleep is for our mind body and soul. I also stopped so much procrastination and started setting small goals to get those done. The house is getting easier to keep up on. And... I even have time to bathe.

As Ed Mylett says "Your first goal that you should beat everyday is waking up before the sun. Beat the Sun. " Wise words to live by.

So to my fellow humans. Get those zzz's. Get motivated. Dream. Goal set. And Accomplish.

Here's to your success!
