Homeschool Field Trip: The Tillamook Forest Center

While in Oregon, there where plenty of things to see. But a sight to behold was the Tillamook Forest. I know it's a bit unorthadox to say, (but I'm a weirdo anyways) was the energy that I felt when I was there. Some forest have this old , calm, secluded feel to it. I would say it is a wise feeling that most old growth forest have. However, this forest was alive with new growth, still in it's infamacy stage as a forest. The trees, the moss, the flowers. It was an amazing feeling. I long to go back and build my sustainable life there with my family.

Here's what we learned from visiting the Tillamook Forest Center.

1.) There where 4 fires that occured during the early 1900's . They called it the 6 year jynx because it just so happended that every 6 years there was another deadly fire.

2.) People from all over replanted the ENTIRE forest. They even did Gorilla Seeding from helicopers.

3.) You have to experience it for youself. Sure I could go on about the information, but it's just not as fun . Besides you can get all of that information from the web. Just scroll down for some links on the information. What you can't get from the web is the feeling of being immursed in a new growth of forest and knowing that people from all over came together for the soul purpose of bringing back what mother nature had destroyed. Humanity at it's best. :-)

Till next time,

XO
