As a busy mom of 3 (five if you include the husband and dog), you probably find yourself in the kitchen about 70% of the time. 50% of that just standing there, beaming into your cupboards, with your arms on your hips, wondering how you can incorporate peanut butter and potatoes into a wholesome dish. You hope your dinner comes out with the intention of an inspired Chinese dish with a peanut sauce. We can only hope.
What we don't realize or don't think about is what is it exactly that we are feeding our family. As a mom, it's our duty to nourish those little bodies with food that will fight off disease and help them grow into smart adults. For me, I have the privilege of living in California, the bread basket of America. So getting wholesome food is easy. Shoot, there are more health food stores and Farmers Market in my town than there are snow cone stands in Texas.(Believe me, it's a big deal there) So what's the big deal?
GMO.
Genetically Modified Organism
·
A GMO is an organism whose genome has been altered by the techniques of genetic engineering so that its DNA contains one or more genes not normally found there. Note: A high percentage of food crops, such as corn and soybeans, are genetically modified
Ya. Not so excited over this. -_-
Its everywhere. in everythimg, and it's really starting to annoy me.
So what does this mean?
It means that I now have to research this because I don't understand it. So in the meantime, I am taking the less processed route, where I get more creative with wholesome foods. I could stand outside and hold up a picket poster in protest .However, I don't have time for that. What I can do is take a stand right where I am. Inside my home. And at all those local Farmers Market. I'll keep you posted on yummy recipes I find and the stories of my children’s reactions to this subtle little change. Until then,
Watch GMO OMG. It gives great information, and just a heads up, it might piss you off.
Till then, watch out, read your labels. Ask questions, research and educate yourself. For you, your kids and future generations.
